Puppy’s first time at the vet - when and why?
Puppy
Health
The first visit to the vet is a highly stressful situation for your puppy. Unfortunately, you cannot skip this step - your puppy needs his basic vaccinations which will grant him protection from many infectious diseases
Your puppy's first visit to the vet
Your puppy will need their first veterinary visit within the first couple of weeks at home — but there is no need to rush. Give your puppy a few days to settle in and begin to feel comfortable with you before adding the additional stress of a new environment.
What to expect at the first visit
The vet will carry out a general health assessment — checking weight, eyes, ears, mouth, and skin, and listening to heart and lungs. They will advise on vaccinations, parasite prevention, and any follow-up appointments. Weight recorded at this stage is also used as a baseline for calculating correct medication doses if ever needed.

Come prepared with questions
If anything about your puppy's behaviour, eating habits, or development has puzzled you in those first days, the vet visit is the right time to ask. First-time owners especially should feel free to ask anything — there are no unnecessary questions when it comes to caring for a young puppy.
Your Husse advisor is also a valuable point of contact between vet visits. For day-to-day questions about feeding, digestion, or how your puppy is developing, they are just a message away.
